Project Update: Code Hostels, 1a Parliament Square, Edinburgh
Corecut supported Code Hostels on a unique and historically significant project in Edinburgh’s Old Town.
Following the discovery of a 19th-century engine concealed within the attic, Code Hostels engaged Corecut in Aug 2024 to assist in the creation of a dedicated display space within The Lost Close, their underground whisky tasting venue.
In January 2025, Corecut utilised specialist stitch drilling, hand breaking, and hand grinding techniques to form a new doorway through a 1-metre-thick sandstone wall. Our team also managed the removal of rubble to provide access to an area of the basement that had previously remained unused. This newly revealed space now houses the historic engine, allowing visitors to experience an important piece of Edinburgh’s industrial heritage.
Corecut is proud to have contributed to a project that helps preserve and celebrate the city’s rich history.
